I updated to the latest version of Minecraft (1.18.1) in Windows 10 version 21H2, opened the new Minecraft Launcher client, selected latest version, hit Play, and received an error "jni error has occurred" (also a generic java error and a crash following that). Same error when running the vanilla server.
Tried a lot of things to solve this, but I'm still getting the same error.
Here are some of the things I tried so far that seem most relevant:
• Tried using ecosia and stack overflow to find the error, but those solutions were basically just "update java".
• Updated java by using the Java Control Panel, like described here:
• That gave me a new jre folder, so I updated my path like so... System Properties: Advanced: Environment Variables:
User variables: Variable "Path" has only this now... %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\WindowsApps ...because I removed a couple of redundant entries from there in case that was confusing something.
System variables: Variable "Path" then had these at the top...
C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.8.0_311\bin
C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.8.0_152\bin
Same major and minor versions. Looks good to me.
• Also updated the jre location in minecraft launcher under Installations tab: Latest release: More options.
• Uninstalled everything minecraft in Add/Remove programs dialog, reinstalled everything (and of course restarted the launcher and computer numerous times in between various attempts).
• Thought maybe "update java" is ambiguous, so I went to get a new jdk too:
• From there I downloaded this:
• Installed to here: C:\Program Files\Java\jdk-17.0.1
That's right alongside jdk-1.8.0_152 and I don't know why the naming convention is now different, which makes me nervious, but that's the lastest, so shrug
Updated Path to the new jdk.
None of that seemed to have any effect. Error persists. Admittedly this isn't my area of expertise, but shouldn't this stuff be dirt simple by now? What am I missing?
